Always active throughout his life, 83-year-old John Edwards has taken up the challenge to abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.
For many years a keen rugby player at the Effingham club, nowadays he admits he’s not up to a 5k run but is looking forward to undertaking the 100m descent from the top of the quayside building
“I felt I wanted to get out and do something while I still could,” he said
His aim is to raise at least £1,200 in memory of his sister-in-law Mary Hall, who was cared for at Princess Alice Hospice until her death in 2001.
